James Horner, the Oscar-winning composer behind Titanic, died in a plane crash in central California yesterday. He was 61 years old.

A single engine plane crashed Monday (June 22) in Santa Barbara, California killing its pilot. Hours after the crash Horner’s assistant, Sylvia Patrycja, took to Facebook to pay tribute to her boss, who was the pilot of the small prop plane, writing, “A great tragedy has struck my family today, and I will not be around for a while. I would like some privacy and time to heal.”

Adding, “We have lost an amazing person with a huge heart, and unbelievable talent. He died doing what he loved. Thank you for all your support and love and see you down the road.”

Though at the time of Patrycja’s post Horner’s body had not been identified, it was revealed in early reports that the plane that went down was registered to the composer.
